ABSTRACT

During the last 15 years, namely since the adoption of the ‘Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, Supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transitional Organized Crime’ (United Nations 2000), hereafter the Palermo Protocol, the interest and concern regarding human trafficking has sharply increased. Public and political attention for trafficking in human beings (THB) has grown substantially, which has prompted a tremendous amount of literature and research on the topic. Since then, trafficking has become high in the stated priorities of international political agendas. This global issue affects many countries whether as a source, transit and/or destination of the trafficking f lows.
