ABSTRACT

Asia represents a microcosm of the migration and development interconnections. Globally, almost 70 million, or nearly one-third, of all international migrants are from East Asia and the Pacific and South Asia.2 Migration patterns ref lect the wide income and demographic disparities within the region and with other parts of the world. While Asia is a major source of skilled migrants to advanced countries, the majority of Asian migrants tend to be lowskilled. In addition, all migrants contribute to the economic development within Asia as well.
