ABSTRACT
Among climate scientists there is a consensus that we are experiencing the effects of global climate change which is in large part the direct result of human activity (International Panel on Climate Change [IPCC], 2014). Changes to temperatures and climate patterns around the globe are already threatening agricultural systems and coastal settlements, as evidenced by greater frequency of hot weather days, increased variation in precipitation, severe weather events and rising sea levels (IPCC, 2014).
