ABSTRACT

Australian urban port and infrastructure development require detailed knowledge of complex local planning jurisdictions and legislation, and engagement across urban sectors to optimise development outcomes. Governance bodies comprised of state, territory and local jurisdictions must recognise a leading practice model and adopt corresponding approaches to integrate port impacts within planning for surrounding communities and regions. Planning and development at Australia’s regional and remote ports will benefit from broader stakeholder engagement beyond the port and port users. This planning must also take a port infrastructure network approach and address wider stakeholder interest in the mitigation of the impacts of large scale port and infrastructure developments.
