ABSTRACT

Pursuing sustainability is becoming a key business imperative, and an increasing number of companies have recognized the importance of considering the future of both people and the planet for the long-term success of their businesses (Hay et al., 2005; Kleindorfer et al., 2005; Fujii et al., 2013). Because of the impact of business activities on the three “pillars of sustainability” (i.e., profit, people, and planet) (Elkington, 1994), public concerns for the management of emissions by facility oversight, corporate social responsibility, environmentally friendly products, and the adoption of voluntary standards have been increasing over the past several decades.
