ABSTRACT

During the last decade, in the process of rapid industrialization, China has suffered a series of environmental emergencies that have resulted in damage to the ecosystem, human health, and property. According to the statistical data pertaining to the period between 2001 and 2010, a total of 11,069 accidents occurred which led to environmental pollution and damage resulting in an annual loss of RMB 100 million (ZHTN 2001–2010). Table 13.1 and Figure 13.1 show the total number of environmental emergency accidents and the associated trends observed between 2010 and 2014.
