ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will look at a procedure for the fair distribution of responsibility-as-obligation as a way to overcome the problem of many hands with respect to responsibility-as-obligation. In Chapter 1, we have seen that there are three routes towards acquiring responsibility-as-obligation: the consequentialist, the deontological, and the virtue-ethics route. The last of these routes is based on responsibility-as-virtue, which will be discussed in the next chapter. In both the consequentialist and the deontological route, the fair distribution of responsibility-as-obligation is an important issue.
