ABSTRACT
I once picked up a newspaper whose fashion page headline was “A New Paradigm in Women’s Shoes.” Unfortunately, the word “paradigm” has been popularized and misapplied. Some observers have even claimed that a scientific field can have “multiple paradigms,” thus avoiding a need to agree on basics. Unfortunately, these observers misunderstand the requirements for science to progress.
