Exhibitionism is the most common of the paraphilias, and research now shows that many who engage in indecent exposure may be at risk to commit more "hands-on" sexual offenses. Exhibitionism has also been discussed in the psychoanalytic literature. The diagnostic label psychopathic personality disorder or psychopathy, for short, is generally reserved for individuals who do not have an Axis I disorder. However, if psychopathic personality traits are present, research has shown these individuals are at higher risk of reoffending and more difficult to treat. Forensic mental health assessment (FMHA) is a unique endeavor, not necessarily different in scope, but different in goals from assessment for treatment recommendations. An FMHA should also include a risk assessment. For the current FMHA, I used the self-report questionnaire Psychopathic Personality Inventory-Revised (PPI-R). The Personality Assessment Inventory is a 344-item self-report inventory comprising 22 non-overlapping scales that cover a wide range of diagnostic possibilities.
