ABSTRACT

This part explores the arrival of humanitarian grassroots organizations as important players in the borderlands. In the context of violence and natural disaster, humanitarian organizations are becoming increasingly important. Not only do they produce an international truth for international audiences as witnesses of the human rights abuses in violent conflicts (Redfield 2013), but they also rise to hold considerable power in the local context, helping internally displaced people in dangerous borderlands by becoming the sole providers of emergency healthcare, mobile education, food, and clothing.
