ABSTRACT

With the level of public trust in government at its historic low (Saad 2011), much research in public administration has been devoted to studying factors that influence citizen trust in government. Among these, e-government has received much attention as a potential remedy to improve citizen trust by providing citizens with the convenience of online services available 24/7 and enabling citizens to communicate directly with the government and its officials through online channels of communication. As a public sector innovation, e-government was expected to have a positive impact on citizen trust in government, and numerous studies have found such a relationship between e-government use and citizen trust in government (Bart et al. 2005; Beldad et al. 2012; Carter and Bélanger 2005; Parent, Vandebeek, and Gemino 2005; Tolbert and Mossberger 2006; West 2004).
