ABSTRACT
The Chinese definition of “ideology” consists of two concepts: li lun (理論) and si xiang (思想). Li lun can be translated into English as “doctrine” and is similar to the Western political science conception of ideology. Si xiang is much broader and is often translated as “thought.” In our interpretation of China's political ideology for this handbook, we will include both Chinese concepts.
