ABSTRACT

Given that most of the world’s human population can be found in cities, any serious study of climate change must account for cities. Thus, the philosophy of climate change must consider the philosophical and scientific issues related to the city. This chapter takes up this challenge to explore the climate paradox, wherein US cities are becoming greener, but emissions are increasing. This is the result of three problems: the problems of measurement, inequity, and moral corruption. The presence of the climate paradox indicates that meaningful climate action will have to address these three problems.
