The field of audio for digital television (DTV) has expanded greatly over the last decade. Audio quality and features have advanced significantly. The transition to over-the-air (OTA) digital television (DTV) is an accomplished fact, and at this writing the industry is deploying a significant next-generation version of the system. Simultaneously, content is increasingly consumed from the Internet. One thing that has not changed is that audio remains an area causing apprehension with many TV engineers and managers, especially as the industry has already begun distribution of personalized and immersive audio.
