ABSTRACT

This section strengthens the broad reach of forensic psychology and its focus on a range of critical areas on a global scale. It covers examples of the variety of work within this field, and where such focus can have the potential for real-world impact. This section begins with a chapter on the function of critical incidents within secure forensic services, exploring the motivations of those who engage in events such as roof-top protests, barricades and hostage taking. It provides the reader with additional knowledge and understanding to fill current gaps in the field when exploring why individuals might engage in such behaviour, what maintains this behaviour, and what might also protect and buffer against it. As a result, it reminds the reader of the fundamentals of human behaviour in terms of functional analysis and reinforcement, as well as what individuals might do if they feel overwhelmed or unable to seek the interaction or goals they desire.
