ABSTRACT

Currently, the most optimistic conclusion regarding the effectiveness of programmes in reducing intimate partner violence (IPV) is that they have, at best, only a modest impact. The more rigorously designed evaluations find weak or no treatment effects (Babcock, Green & Robie, 2004; Carney & Buttell, 2006; Davis & Taylor, 1999; Eckhardt et al., 2013; Feder & Wilson, 2005; Feder, Wilson & Austin, 2008; Haggard, Freij, Danielsson, Wenander & Langstrom, 2017; Maxwell, Davis & Taylor, 2010; Stover, Meadows & Kaufman, 2009). Recently, however, studies have been completed suggesting that cognitive-behavioural approaches applying the effective corrections principles might provide direction on how to progressively improve the disappointing research outcomes demonstrated in the literature (Bloomfield & Dixon, 2017; Day, Chung, O’Leary & Carson, 2009; Gondolf, 2012; Stewart, Gabora, Kropp & Lee, 2014).
