ABSTRACT

Amongst the major shifts in child welfare in recent decades has been the growth and development of multi-disciplinary work with children and young people. This chapter will explore these developments within a global context – whilst giving examples primarily from the United Kingdom. It will be argued that this shift is part of a global development – which extends beyond child welfare. Multi-disciplinary working is part of a wider emphasis on ‘the Network Society’ (Castells, 1998) and challenging the ‘silo effect’ (Tett, 2015), which spreads across private enterprise, the public sector and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involving a range different professions and activities.
