ABSTRACT

Those of us who write or read chapters such as those in this book lead greatly privileged lives with access to the best medical treatments and care available, while the majority of the world’s population live, suffer, and die in miserable conditions with access to minimal health care (Benatar, 1998; Birn, 2011; Doyal, 2013). These vast differences in lived experiences across the world are symptomatic of deep, extensive, and overlapping complex global crises that increasingly threaten the lives and well-being of us all (Gill & Bakker, 2011; Gill, 2012), and remind us of the deteriorating ‘state of health’ of our planet.
