ABSTRACT

Value-centered mediation (VCM) builds upon previous models (problem solving, relationship-driven, facilitative) while integrating scientific frameworks and the Logotherapy of Viktor Frankl (1959). In VCM, the mediator elicits the explicit meaning and value of the conflict for the disputants. This foundation enables the parties to understand what is most important and so they can negotiate in ways that honor each other. The results include a deeper understanding of the conflict, a more nuanced negotiation, and greater wisdom gained from the process.
