ABSTRACT
Contrary to other fields of EU law that were subject to European integration and initiatives since the very beginning of this enterprise, the field of criminal law was left relatively untouched by EU action for a long time. Thus, the field of EU criminal law has a ‘recent existence’ in research, emerging in the 1990s. It has since been the object of a booming development. In legal terms, the field of EU criminal law has been a privileged topic to analyze the numerous institutional evolutions that marked the EU treaty revisions between 1992 and 2009. In terms of substance, the content of EU actions in this field has also evolved substantially, and the European legislator has demonstrated its activism and dynamism in this field.
