ABSTRACT

Learning analytics is a fast-developing field of research that has emerged since 2011 and has been taken up worldwide, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. The field has its roots in data mining and in business intelligence. It also makes use of methodologies and theories developed in disciplines as diverse as artificial intelligence, computer science, education, learning sciences, linguistics, machine learning, philosophy, psychology, sociology and statistics (Dawson et al. 2014).
