ABSTRACT

Since the research by Broadie (2015), which showed how important driving distance is to success in golf, it is clear that golfers need to understand how to drive the ball further. While there are a number of factors that affect how far the ball will travel, clubhead speed is by far the most important. Generating clubhead speed at impact is a function of how much energy can be generated by the body and how that energy can be transferred across joints to arrive at the clubhead at impact. This chapter initially describes the phenomenon of the kinematic sequence, followed by reference to the scientific work that underpins the idea.
