ABSTRACT

The study of youth engagement and young people in golf is very much a marginalised (yet developing) one. With the focus on adult participation and engagement, equipment technology and other participation aids (such as those highlighted within this book), the focus on young people is most evidently missing. While there are plenty of studies emerging within the sport science literature on young people exploring things, such as talent and football at both grassroots (e.g., O’Gorman & Greenough, 2015) and elite (e.g., Clarke et al., 2016) levels, as well as tennis (e.g., Knight & Holt, 2013), these tend to come from a psychosocial perspective. In contrast to many other sports, research in golf is limited, and where it does exist, it is mainly focussed upon performance measurement and training.
