ABSTRACT

Sport nutrition is becoming increasingly recognised as one of the most important subdisciplines of sports science, with the sports nutritionist now becoming an integral part of the support team for elite golfers. Nutrition is an important component that needs to be considered by golfers since it can impact body composition, game day performance, recovery from training and competition, immune function, adaptations to training and general health. Despite the increased awareness of the importance of sport nutrition, athletes across a multitude of sports demonstrate a lack of nutritional knowledge (Alaunyte et al., 2015; Devlin & Belski, 2015), and professional golfers are certainly no exception. This chapter will discuss some of the current research into sport nutrition, the limited golf-specific research, as well as offer practical recommendations for the golfer.
