ABSTRACT

Golf can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Toddlers with toy clubs eagerly attempt to imitate a golf swing they have observed, while, at the other end of the age spectrum, there are examples of nonagenarian golfers with amazing skill (Morehouse, 1990; Baker et al., 2007). The focus of this chapter is to demonstrate that, regardless of whether one is a life-long participant for many decades, or just taking up the sport in their retirement years, golf can be both an enjoyable leisure time pursuit and a valuable exercise option for the older adult population (Farahmand et al., 2009; Lindsay & Vandervoort, 2014). Walking generates a moderate exercise intensity for most seniors, and regular golf participation can provide the motivation to get active at the recommended level several times per week (American College of Sports Medicine, 2014).
