ABSTRACT
Within the realm of discourse on immigration, there is perhaps no image more iconic than that of a silhouetted migrant family running against the bright yellow backdrop of roadside traffic warning signs posted along San Diego freeways in the late 1980s. Created for California Department of Transit by graphic artist John Hood, the now ubiquitous image depicts two adults running alongside a young girl who struggles to keep up with their pace.1
