ABSTRACT

The entire poem brings to mind what writer, scholar, and theorist, Gloria Anzaldúa described as “divergent thinking … At some point on our way to a new consciousness, we will have to leave the opposite bank, the split between the two mortal combatants somehow healed so that we are on both shores at once and, at once, see through serpent eagle eyes (100-1).” Berenice Dimas represents a growing number of Chicana and Latina healers who are taking healing practices to a new level of meaning and visibility. Their rituals are not clandestine or imparted in isolated spaces. Their rituals also may include Western and Asian practices.
