ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the ludic representation of Latina/os and Latin American cultures in video games; and it makes a case for the articulation of a Latina/o-oriented ludology, as an interdisciplinary field situated at the intersection of Latina/o studies and game studies. In order to better understand how Latina/o culture positions itself within the growing body of video games interested in its portrayal, it is necessary to examine first some general characteristics of the video game industry today, which I will do in the first section of this chapter.
