ABSTRACT

As our society is increasingly plagued by a plethora of chronic diseases, effective health communication appears more important than ever. For example, obesity runs rampant across the U.S. among both adults and children (Ogden, Carroll, Kit, & Flegal, 2014), and diabetes is on the rise (CDC, 2014). Many Americans do not exercise on a regular basis and often fail to adhere to a healthy diet. These problems and others are often caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices, sometimes due to a lack of knowledge about the importance of healthy behaviors and how to more easily integrate them into busy lives. As such, it is important for health messages to be more effective in message and media strategies, as well as in reaching the target audience.
