ABSTRACT

Before discussing the politics of translation in the audiovisual media, we need to define the three concepts embedded here:

(i) Defining ‘politics’

The primary sense of the word ‘politics’ is related to how society is governed, and although politics of that sort is indeed important in determining national and local media landscapes, this chapter will focus on politics as practices not defined by ‘politicians’, but by all instances involved in the exchange and translation of media products.
