ABSTRACT
Energy efficiency is defined as doing more useful work with the same amount of energy consumption (IMO, 2009). It applies to both the design and the operation of ships and can mainly be improved in two ways: firstly, by enhancing technical efficiency through optimizing the hull shape and propulsion system. Secondly, by improving operational efficiency, mainly through voyage optimization, improved fleet management, and energy management.
