ABSTRACT
Drawing on the work of German sociologist Norbert Elias and others, I use a revised notion of disproportionality to counter the claim that moral panic research on climate change must constitute a form of climate change “denial” (the charge of denial certainly indicates much about commonly held doubts concerning the concept of moral panic) (for useful introductions to Elias’s work, see Mennell 1998, Fletcher 1997, van Krieken 1998, Kilminster 2007, and Hughes 2008.).
