ABSTRACT
Giorgio Vasari, as an artist, writer, and collector of art of the Cinquecento, viewed himself as “huomo buono et docto in buon letter” (“a fine and learned man”).2 In choosing to practise various arts such as writing treatises and designing buildings, the Cinquecento artist is looked on by the humanists as a virtuoso (Fig. 3.1).
