ABSTRACT

According to recent UN estimates, there are currently over 77,000 MNCs, along with an estimated 800,000 subsidiaries and untold millions of national suppliers and vendors. Together MNCs now directly control roughly 25 per cent of all global commerce, and are indirectly involved in nearly every aspect of the global economy. In addition to their economic impact, MNCs are increasingly recognised as important transnational actors in their own right, and they often operate in tandem with national governments in forging policies on trade, investment and other economic matters.
