ABSTRACT
In Argentina a textile industry only developed in the modern sense in the twentieth century, mainly in the interwar period (1914-1939), when an important expansion in the sector took place. In contrast to other Latin American countries like Mexico and Brazil, the textile production from Rio de la Plata had not achieved consistent gro�th in the pre�ious centuries, although different fabrics �ere produced in the colonial period. The main reason for this late start was the peculiar integration of Argentina in the international market as primary product supplier.
