ABSTRACT

E�plaining the significance of space in te�tile production requires a multi-le�el approach, taking into account local, regional, national and global aspects as well as their interrelationship. A main question is how textile production was geographically distributed. Textile production for direct subsistence or local markets occurs almost e�ery�here people settle and local materials are a�ailable for spinning and weaving, in order to meet the basic human need for clothing. It represents a general phenomenon, �hich de�elops under specific local and regional circumstances.
