What is the essence of a religious view? It might not always be called religious, and that can confound an inquiry. In numerous public appearances over 40 years, Stephen Gaskin was frequently asked to describe the religion of The Farm spiritual community, which he founded in 1971. “Free thinkers” was his usual reply.
