ABSTRACT

The global economy is overseen and controlled from a network of urban centres, a network of world cities. The standard literature thus far on world cities or global cities has given precedence to advanced producer services (APS), including banking and other financial services (Sassen 2001, 2006). Taylor and his collaborators in the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) project have painstakingly gathered data on the locations of firms in several producer service sectors: accountancy, advertising, banking/finance, insurance, law, and management consultancy (Taylor 2004, Taylor et al. 2011).
