ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the recent developments in the area of human resources and organizational development in relation to their possible connections to disability management. The disability management can be seen as an intervention and counselling approach, the aim of which is to advance and support the integration and reintegration of company employees. Workplace disability management is not common in Switzerland, though some private companies do have in-house disability management, and cities and cantons have begun to implement disability management in recent years, in particular, the city and canton of Zurich, and the cantons Bern, Aargau and Lucerne. The concrete casework in disability management, that is, the counselling and support of employees with an illness or injury, is seen as a professionally guided and structured process with the objective of individual work integration. Based on its equally case- and system-specific approach in relation to gainful employment, disability management differs fundamentally from workplace health management.
