ABSTRACT

The number of women entrepreneurs differs significantly in each of the Baltic Sea countries. The data show that the entrepreneurship rate for women, which expresses the percentage share of entrepreneurs in the women’s total active labour force, is 14% in Poland, 7% in Lithuania, 8% in Latvia, 5% in Estonia, and 6% in Sweden (European Commission, 2014, p. 8). There are also differences in the share of women among all entrepreneurs: 34% in Poland, 40% in Lithuania and in Latvia, 28% in Estonia, and 26% in Sweden (European Commission, 2014, p. 24). While Lithuania and Latvia have the largest share of women among the total number of entrepreneurs, the highest female entrepreneurship rate is observed in Poland.
