ABSTRACT
All over the world, bodies of dead individuals are used to make strong political statements. Be they actual bones or fragments of the deadly remains, or rather symbolic representations of the absent body like tombs of “Unknown Soldiers”, cenotaphs or statues in public places, these objects assume an important role in the continuous manipulation of time through their materiality. As the poet T. S. Eliot (1940) famously put it,
