ABSTRACT

In this chapter, John Seymour discusses the importance of the sibling bond throughout the life span, and then addresses the power and potential positive effects of that bond with the chronically ill child and the adaptive role that bond plays within the entire family system. In reminding us that chronic illness impacts almost a third of American families, and presents a major challenge for the family to adapt and thrive, he also teaches us that families search for ways to embrace life and thrive while addressing the challenges of medical conditions and treatment that can last a lifetime.
