ABSTRACT
The legal rules in the Netherlands for expropriation for urban development are in many ways similar to those in Germany, as described by Albrecht. The main differences seem to be in the purposes for which it can be applied (more widely in the Netherlands), the way in which compensation is calculated, and the pragmatic and non-ideological way in which it is viewed.
