Notes on the nineteenth-century trade cycle

From one point of view, it needs no apology to discuss the nineteenth century experience. Economic history is of interest in its own right, but it is not, however, the reason for this chapter. Rather, we wish to look at the nineteenth-century trade cycle for reasons of economic theory, for what this experience can teach us about economic analysis.
