ABSTRACT

The crucial importance of the parent-child relationship in the early years of life is well established. Parenting influences children’s development through the day-to-day interactions between parents and children. The quality of these interactions lays the foundations for optimal development by promoting healthy brain development, secure attachment, growth of early language, emotional regulation capacity, prosociality and school readiness. Supporting parents in their role can help to create knowledgeable, skilled and confident parents, who can in turn promote healthy, happy and capable children who are less likely to experience adverse childhood experiences.
