168 169There are distinctively distinguishing qualities that exist between and among the 50+ Asian and Pacific Islander ethnic and subgroups; differences also occur with those who migrated or who were born and reared in the United States. For example, language, religion, and backgrounds are unique to the various Southeast Asian communities. There are generational differences with early Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) immigrants such as Filipinos, Chinese, and Japanese and today’s Asian and Pacific Islanders.
