ABSTRACT

The ability of individuals to have meaningful conversations, clearly express thoughts and feelings, and be effective in their intent hinges on their grammatical constructions. Theoretical issues in the teaching of grammar in L2/Ln sign languages are presented. Current practices crucial to learning and teaching scenarios and different groups of learners, namely the role of prior languages and modality, are discussed. Evidence-based examples of pedagogical practices in the teaching of grammar are explicated. The chapter closes with future trends in grammatical issues in sign language teaching for research and pedagogical practice.
