ABSTRACT

Youth languages have always raised curiosity not only among scientists but also in general. This is because of their unique characteristics that differentiate them from mainstream languages. Some of their main characteristics include their reflection of the generational youth phenomenon, modernity and change. In some cases, some youth varieties are enshrouded in secrecy and exclusion, thus making them more extraordinary. A number of these youth languages are in Africa, which is not surprising given that Africa is a highly multilingual continent.
