ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore how the role of mindfulness and, importantly, the practice of stillness impact upon the lived experience of dance making within choreographic practice and pedagogy. It considers how their integration might shift embodied processes within the studio environment. Although contemporary dance practice shares many of the principles embedded within mindfulness and has been interrogated by somatic practitioners such as Martha Eddy (2016) and Sondra Fraleigh (2014), there is little documentation of how mindfulness can inform choreographic practice and pedagogy.
