ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to provide a review of some important recent contributions to theory and research in the management of innovation with the aim of identifying their relevance for research into innovation in the construction industry. It will become apparent from the review that one of the important issues raised is the role of third parties - organizations that are neither the original source of the innovative idea, nor its implementer - in the innovation process. We have dubbed these organizations 'innovation brokers', and a more detailed discussion of their role follows the literature review before some conclusions are drawn.
